Federal Bill Invests in Nurse-Managed Clinics

New legislation in the U.S. Senate would create a $50 million grant program for nurse-managed health clinics. The Nurse-Managed Health Clinic Investment Act of 2007 (S 2112) was introduced last September. At press time in late December, the bill had been referred to the Senate's committee on health, education, labor and pensions.

The act focuses on grants for nurse-managed primary care clinics that serve medically underserved and uninsured patients around the country.

The national nurse practitioner organizations are urging NPs to inform legislators that the additional funding provided by this new grant program is important to sustain the nation's nurse-managed health clinics.
