Florida NPs Lobby Legislators

View Comments (6)Print ArticleEmail Article
Nurse practitioner and filmmaker Sue Hagedorn shot this video for Nursestories and the Florida Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses. Florida's Healthcare Crisis: Advanced Practice Nurses Solutions was distributed to legislators in time for the 2009 session, which is discussing NP controlled substance prescribing for the 15th year. (This year's bills are SB 426 and HB 1259.)

Hagedorn's first video was a similar project about NPs for the Colorado Nurses Association produced in 2007.

Watch the Florida video below.

Bravo! Wonderful video encompassing all that we are. It will take time and a lot of persistence, but I know you will eventually prevail.

Move to Alaska. I thank God everyday that I don't work in a state that restricts my practice. I have full prescribing abilities and no 'collaborative'. I practice under my own license and am under the board of nursing. Physicians here are colleagues, not overseers. Florida and the physician monopoly on practice is archaic. Sorry folks - move out of there!

I was privey to the notion that Fl. NP's association will file a law suit of "restricitve practice" against the AMA if we cannot get this "Prescriptive Auth" bill on the floor.
Not sure we have enough $$$, but maybe just maybe that will open some eyes to our plight.
I noticed someone wrote "narc's", I ask the nursing community to use language that is not "street language" when posting. It might sound trivial, but we have reached a certain degree in our career's that enables us to speak in medical terms. Florida (which I was not born to, but have lived 30+ yrs) is a great state to live in, we as practitioners must keep up the viligence so that our niche is to our liking and livlihood.
