First NADNP Conference a Sellout

CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. - The inaugural conference of the National Academy of Dermatology Nurse Practitioners (NADNP) not only was a sellout, it was an essential and energizing step in the evolution of the year-old organization.

"This conference was a huge success," said NADNP president and founder Debra Shelby, DNP, FNP-BC, DNC. "Our goal was to provide an educational experience - not just another conference where people come together and do not interact with others or the organization. . Everyone could see our mission come to life as primary and dermatology providers came together to obtain dermatology education."

Approximately 225 NPs and PAs from the United States and Canada attended the meeting, a capacity crowd for the available meeting space and rooms. The conference took place May 3-5. Leaders of the organization said they plan to at least double the size of the conference in 2013.

Sessions presented at the conference covered topics ranging from dermoscopy skills for lesion assessment to autoimmune and inflammatory skin diseases to rare presentations of melanoma. Attendees also learned about new dermatology tools and products features in the exhibit hall and enjoyed socializing at a Cinco de Mayo party complete with mariachi band. "Future goals of this organization include improving and expanding our website and educational programs," Shelby told ADVANCE for NPs & PAs. "We need members to come forward and join us in our mission to be the leading NP dermatology organization. We will continue our collaboration with our physician, NP and PA colleagues as we unite to deliver the best dermatologic care through education and certification development."

The next NADNP conference is scheduled for May 14-18, 2013, at the same location, the Sheraton Sand Keys Resort in Clearwater Beach, Fla. For information on membership and dermatology education, visit ADVANCE for NPs & PAs is proud to be an official journal of NADNP.
