Hospitals Grow with Technology

TeleHealth Services recently released research on new communication technology and the impact it has on the healthcare system. The organization found that hospitals embracing technology as a main communication source between healthcare professionals and patients have higher comprehension and retention rates in patient education.

Approximately 20% of the nation's hospitals use some form of interactive engagement system to teach patients about their conditions. TeleHealth, a provider of interactive patient engagement solutions, encourages hospitals to continue on this track.

"Technology is enabling better quality patient education and patient experience in hospitals with measureable success," said Susie Sonnier, MS, RN. Sonnier authored the white paper released by TeleHealth. "Interactive video-based education has resulted in better information retention and engagement of patients with the care team."

She also noted that "outcomes and patient satisfaction are improved" and "readmissions are reduced."

The white paper, titled "Impacting Successful Outcomes: Optimizing Patient Interactive Education and Engagement," discusses the many considerations and benefits of tech-based learning for patients and facilities. With a technological education system in place, facilities can use the same curriculum for all patients, access lessons during teachable moments, and free up time for nurses who can then care for more patients.

Matt Barker, vice president of marketing for TeleHealth Services, added, "Adoption of technology for patient engagement is an evolution, not a revolution."
