As a graduate of the UC davis combined PA/NP program, a program that is recognized as the most intense NP program in the country and simply standard for PA education, I think I can offer a unique perspective. First, I have taught at both NP and PA programs as FT faculty. I don't care about salaries, or whos better ect...but I can say taht without question, PA education is superior to NP. PA's train in all systems, have a much stronger basic science background entering medical education, and train at a much more complex level of medicine. Np education just doesn't allow enough time in school to cover what is offered in PA school. That aside, NPs are trained very well in their area of focus. I am proud to have both certs/degrees. I believe that having both has served me well in my career. A pediatric NP is well qualified to practice peds, as is a PA. It's just that the PA is also well qualified to work in many other fields.

Respect each others skills. You will learn a great deal from each other. And in my opinion, we should all practice under the general direction of a physician who is significantly more educated than all of us.
