The DNP is the stupidist mandate that could have been thought up. It will kill our profession and set back all the gains acquiired to date.
Two extra years of study, two extra years of acquired debt, no job guarantee at the end of the day and virtually no increase in pay. This is STINKEN THINKEN! All based on Nursing's Inferioriy Complex. The only NP's in favor of this mandate are the ones that went for their DNP; Cognitive Disonance Theory in the flesh. Bring a vote of the rank-and-file Master's prepared NP's and see what the results will be. The powers that be need to be replaced for such a mandate. Pure abuse of authority and short-sightedness. Access to care will worsen because once the reality of this decision is realized, there will be less NP's in the workforce. You want to be a "Doctor", go to Medical School. DNP is a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. Excuse me, we practice Medicine, not Nursing. We are taught the Medical Model, not the Nursing Model to treat patients. Nursing is in our DNA and helps us care for the patient totally. MD's bring us into their Practice to practice Medicine. We are an independent extension of the physician. Nurses can't do what we do, only physicians can. So wake up and smell the coffee. It's about time.
The first ammendment is there for a reason, and this mandate will swing the pendulum in the other direction.

Yes, and the powers that be want to mandate the DNP! TWO MORE YEARS OF STUDY AND TWO MORE YEARS OF STUDENT LOANS, NO GUARANTEED JOB AT THE END OF THE DEGREE, VIRTUALLY NO PAY INCREASE AND THEN THERE IS THE PAY BACK! How's that for Stinken Thinken.
The powers that be will kill the profession and in the process access to care will get worse and worse.
All our gains, "Gone in 60 Seconds".
Don't you just love Nursing's Inferiority Complex?
How about taking it to a vote with the rank-and-file Masters prepared NP's
First order of business, change who the powers that be are!
