Course Title and Materials
Pharmacology: Antibiotic Resistance (18)
An increase in vaccines had produced a dramatic decrease in the incidence of infectious diseases such as smallpox and polio, and multiple new antimicrobial agents were available to treat the organisms that were causing infections. It appeared that we had an upper hand on infectious microbes. However, with increased and widespread use of antimicrobial agents to prevent or treat infections, resistance patterns continued to emerge. It soon became clear that we would never be able to defeat antimicrobial resistance. At best, we would need to keep pace with it.
